Commercial Floor Squeegee: FAQs

What's the difference between a straight and a curved floor squeegee?

A straight floor squeegee pushes water and debris in a straight line and is a simple, general-purpose choice for everyday spills and smaller areas. A curved floor squeegee hugs the floor and channels water into a controlled path, so less water escapes around the ends as you pull — making it more efficient for clearing larger wet floors and directing water toward a drain.

What is a moss rubber squeegee blade?

Moss rubber is a soft, closed-cell rubber that flexes to conform to uneven floors and grout lines, pulling water out of textured surfaces without leaving marks. It clears water more effectively than a hard blade on tile, grout, and rough floors, which is why it's used on Rubbermaid's standard, curved, and heavy-duty floor squeegees.

Should I choose a hard rubber or moss rubber blade?

Choose a hard rubber blade for smooth, even floors, where a firm edge moves water cleanly. Choose a moss rubber blade — dual moss for everyday use or heavy-duty natural moss for the toughest jobs — when floors are uneven, textured, or have grout lines, since the softer blade conforms to the surface and clears water without streaking.

What size floor squeegee do I need?

Wider blades (24" to 30") clear large open floors faster with fewer passes, while narrower blades (18" to 22") are easier to maneuver in restrooms, around fixtures, and in tighter spaces. Many facilities keep a wide squeegee for open floors and a narrower one for detail work.

Do floor squeegees come with a handle?

No — Rubbermaid floor squeegee blades are sold without a handle and accept standard tapered handles, sold separately. That lets you pair the blade with the handle length that suits the job and replace the handle and blade independently as they wear.

Can I use a floor squeegee for windows?

Floor squeegees are designed for floors, not glass. For windows, mirrors, and other glass surfaces, use a dedicated window or glass squeegee from Rubbermaid's Glass Cleaning Solutions — a floor squeegee's blade and width won't give the streak-free finish that glass requires.
