Why Microfiber Matters

Commercial microfiber outperforms traditional cotton cloths and mops because its ultra-fine split fibers physically trap and lift microscopic dirt, dust, and pathogens into the cloth rather than pushing them around the surface. That means more effective cleaning, far less cleaning chemical, and no scratching of finished surfaces. Because HYGEN™ microfiber is engineered to withstand repeated commercial laundering, it's also a durable, cost-effective, and more sustainable investment than disposable cotton wipers — the r-40 recycled cloths, for example, are made with 40% post-consumer recycled polyester and stand up to 200 launderings.

Cleaning vs. Disinfecting: Why You Clean First

Cleaning and disinfecting are two different steps, and the order matters. Cleaning physically removes soil, dust, and the bulk of the microbes living in that soil; disinfecting then kills the pathogens that remain. A disinfectant applied to a visibly dirty surface is far less effective, because soil shields microbes and can deactivate the chemical. That's why environmental cleaning with microfiber is the essential first step in any disinfection protocol — it lifts contaminants off the surface so the disinfectant can do its job, and it does so using water alone, reducing chemical exposure for staff and occupants.

Reusable vs. Disposable Microfiber

Disposable microfiber cloths and pads are designed for single-use cleaning in high-risk or isolation settings — where reusing a cloth, even a laundered one, isn't worth the cross-contamination risk. HYGEN™ Quick-Connect is a tool-exchange system that lets one set of handles and poles serve the entire facility. Frames, mop pads, dusters, and flexi-wands all connect to the same Quick-Connect handles and extension poles through a single mechanism, so staff can switch from floors to walls to high or low surfaces without changing tools or buying into separate systems. Frames feature a flat, trapezoidal profile that slides under furniture and reaches into corners, and extension handles are available from short reach up to 4–8 feet for high dusting.
