HYGEN™ Microfiber Resources
Microfiber is made of ultra-fine split fibers that physically trap and lift dirt, dust, and microbes up into the cloth rather than smearing them across the surface, so contaminants leave with the cloth instead of being redistributed. HYGEN™ Microfiber is third-party proven to remove 99.7% or more of tested bacteria, viruses, and fungi using water alone,* which also lets teams clean effectively while using far less chemical. *Based on third-party testing on a VCT surface with water only. EPA Est. Nos. 91158-IND-1, 91635-VNM-001, 92100-CHN-1. Some HYGEN™ products are tested at 99.9% or more; confirm the figure for each specific SKU.
Cleaning physically removes soil and the microbes living in it; disinfecting kills the pathogens that remain. A disinfectant works poorly on a dirty surface because soil shields microbes and can deactivate the chemical, so effective environmental cleaning has to come first. Cleaning with microfiber lifts contaminants off the surface so any disinfectant applied afterward can actually do its job.
Microfiber's split fibers trap micro-particles that cotton tends to push around, hold more liquid, and require far less cleaning chemical to be effective. Microfiber is also highly launderable — HYGEN™ r-40 recycled cloths withstand 200 commercial launderings — so it lasts far longer per cloth than cotton, lowering the long-term cost despite a higher upfront price.
Use launderable microfiber for routine cleaning across most areas — it delivers the lowest long-term cost and the least waste. Use disposable microfiber cloths and pads in high-risk or isolation settings, such as patient isolation rooms or outbreak response, where the cross-contamination risk of reusing a cloth outweighs the savings. Many facilities run both: reusable for daily routes and disposable where infection control demands single use.
Assigning a cloth or pad color to each zone or task — for example, one color for restrooms, another for patient areas, another for general surfaces — prevents tools used in high-risk areas from being used where hygiene is critical. HYGEN™ cloths and pads come in multiple colors specifically to support these infection-control protocols.
Quick-Connect is a tool-exchange system that lets one set of handles and extension poles serve an entire facility. Frames, mop pads, dusters, and flexi-wands all attach through the same mechanism, so staff can move from floors to walls to high and low surfaces by swapping the tool head rather than the whole handle — saving time and reducing the number of separate tools a cart has to carry.
